Raina Wellman

This is a series of posters I created in response to Beatrice Warde's famous essay on typography, "The Crystal Goblet." While my posters reject Warde's views, I still greatly admire and appreciate her contributions to the graphic design field.
Her perspective is really interesting to me. As a reader and someone completely absorbed in the graphic design world, her statement holds a lot of truth. I’ve grown to love the little details (kerning, ragging, and more) as I’ve become more dedicated and knowledgeable in my design practice. However, as a practicing contemporary graphic designer I think that graphic design is a balance between detail and fun. Typography and graphic design now have new tasks and new applications beyond the art of a beautifully crafted book design.
